The Netherlands

One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art.
                                                                                      - Oscar Wilde

According to Marco, this is the traditional clothing from the part of Holland where he lives. He added that some time ago, every area, region or village use to have their own style but basically Holland's traditional clothing consisted of long skirt and a blouse with an apron, headpieces varied according to area.

Someday, I'd love to see my collection plenty with postcards showing the country's traditional clothing. I love clothes even to those that belong of a bygone era. Nowadays, there is like a universal fashion, dictated by  fashion magazines and famous icons, so almost everybody wears pretty much the same, whether that person lives in the tropics or in a temperate country. I've got nothing against it, wearing the latest fashion is fun and classy but it also never fails to amaze me every time I see someone in  traditional clothing. I just wish I could go to the mall wearing baro't saya without people thinking I'm a member of a traditional dance group that just gave a performance, or that it's Philippine Independence Day ( even if it's not June 12 ) or United Nations Day and I'm representing my country. Okay, so let's just stick to skinny jeans ( for readers who will be reading this blog years from now, let me just point it out that skinny jeans is in fashion ) it would be a safe choice.

Germany

The sun does not forget a village just because it is small.

Bleeding Heart Flower

Eberhardzell, a lovely village in the southern part of Germany.

This postcard makes me think of my sleepy tiny village or so it was. Nowadays, that said village is not so sleepy anymore, a traffic jam right in front of our house greets me around 7 o'clock in the morning.
But when I was young, hmmm I'm still young ^^ what I mean is 7 years old young or younger than that, there was a cornfield  behind our house and a small sugar cane plantation. And I can name all of my neighbors,  I think. But now I hardly know anyone, except for the old ones. The cornfield and the sugar canes are long gone but I still hear some birds chirping, quite a comforting sound and that assures me, I'm home.

Finland

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.

Burnet Roses by Eero Jarnefelt
The very first postcard I received from postcrossing, it was like winning the lottery, hahaha it was a happy day indeed, and I felt like a child that just tasted cotton candy for the very first time.
It was June so Ulla sent me a postcard which shows a countryside during summer. And it's my first time to know that Finland is  Suomi in Finnish.

Now Serving : Postcard a la Mode

It's been a while since I'm thinking of starting my own postcard blog. I really don't know what's keeping me though, perhaps the absence of a scanning tool, we all know as scanner, or my fear of writing  because I can't seem to express my thoughts into words. It seems both and a roomful of excuses. But finally, Postcard a la Mode now enters the blogosphere. So I'm hoping for a sunny day.
